Welcome to Larijan Spa
Larijan Spa, one of the tourist destinations near Tehran, often goes unnoticed by visitors travelling on the Haraz Road to the Caspian Sea. However, it is a perfect day trip destination from Tehran and other regions of the country, offering recreational activities and numerous therapeutic benefits that attract medical tourists. The mineral water from the boiling springs of Volcano Damavand, which is incredibly ancient, provides natural and recreational attractions.

Situated in the provinces of Mazandaran and Amol, close to the city of Rineh-Larijan, the spa experiences a flow of 1,000 litres of water per second, with a temperature ranging from 65 to 70 degrees Celsius. Although the spring water may have a foul taste and odour due to hydrogen sulfide, it contains beneficial magnesium bicarbonate salts that can help treat infectious, skin, and joint disorders.

The main street of Larijan Village is lined with shops to cater to the needs of tourists. Travelers and visitors to the spa region can enjoy the comfortable amenities provided by Larijan Hot Spring Village. One of the most famous structures in Larijan Spa Village is the Shah-Abbasi bath, dating back to the Safavid era.

Advantages of Hot Springs
Hot springs in Iran are known for their antifungal properties and their ability to treat skin conditions, muscle aches, and various other medical issues.

According to Iranian hot water treatment methods, spending an hour in 40-degree water has therapeutic benefits similar to those of 30 minutes of exercise. This practice is especially beneficial for individuals who are unable to engage in physical activity and is scientifically known as passive heating.

In addition to its physical benefits, passive heating can also help reduce blood sugar levels and aid in weight loss. The therapeutic properties of hot springs and mineral water are influenced by various factors such as temperature, chemical composition, and radioactive gases.

The heat from hot springs helps relax muscles, increases blood flow, and provides more oxygen to the cells, thereby boosting the patient’s neurological system response. Hot springs are also beneficial in conducting thermal energy, facilitating the exchange of substances between body cells, reducing muscle fatigue, and calming the nervous system.

Warm water physiotherapy is a vital part of the treatment for patients with weak muscles or after surgery, where a part of their body remains immobile and useless. Patients can exercise their joints and muscles more easily in warm water, leading to increased mobility and strength in the affected area.

The use of water therapy for treating various medical conditions, like the ones mentioned above, has been documented for thousands of years and is still popular today, with hot springs in Iran attracting numerous tourists each year.

Road to Larijan Spa Village
To access Larijan Hot Spring, take the road that diverges from the main route at Gaznak, Larijan Section. This is a twisting, mountainous, and narrow route that takes about 20 minutes to traverse. Note that travelling on this road at night can be a bit intimidating due to the darkness.
