Damavand 5-Day Climbing Tour Itinerary in details:
Day 1: Drive from Tehran to Damavand Camp 1 Polour
On the first day of your trek, you’ll be picked up from your hotel in Tehran and driven to Damavand’s first camp, Polour 2,250 meters above sea level. This campsite is situated at the base of Mount Damavand. The journey from Tehran to Polour Camp 1 will take roughly 2-3 hours, during which you can enjoy the scenic views of the Iranian countryside.
Once you reach the campsite, you’ll check into your accommodation and have some time to rest and adjust to the altitude. This is crucial as you’ll be trekking to higher altitudes, and your body needs to acclimate to the thinner air. Your guide will give you a briefing on the trek, including the route, difficulty level, and any safety precautions to be taken. They will also answer any questions you may have and provide you with information about the area.
Later in the evening, you’ll be treated to a traditional Iranian dinner, which is a highlight of the trip. The dinner will consist of delicious local cuisine, including stews, rice, kebabs, and more. You’ll spend the night at the guesthouse, which is comfortable and provides all the necessary amenities for a good night’s sleep.
Day 2: Drive to Damavand Camp 2 and trek to Camp 3
On Day 2 of the Mount Damavand trekking itinerary, participants will start their day with breakfast and after purchasing the Damavand climbing permit, then be transferred by 4WD off-road cars to Damavand Camp 2 Base (Gosfand-Sara or Mosque), which is located at an altitude of 3040 meters. This transfer will take around an hour. From Camp 2, participants will start their trek to Damavand Camp 3 Bargah Sevom, which is located at an altitude of 4250 meters. The trek is expected to take around 4-5 hours and is of moderate difficulty.
During the trek, participants will pass through beautiful landscapes and enjoy stunning views of the valley below. It is important to note that the trek requires a certain level of physical fitness and participants should be prepared for the altitude change. We typically use the Damavand Camp 3 new hut, a contemporary shelter with minimal facilities like beds and mattresses, during the less crowded seasons. The alternative options during peak season are an igloo or tents. Overnight The tent, igloo, or hut.
Day 2 of the itinerary offers participants the chance to experience some of the most picturesque and challenging parts of the trek, while also providing ample opportunity for rest and recovery. The transfer by 4WD off-road cars to Damavand Camp 2, Basecamp ensures that participants can save energy for the trek, while the trek itself offers some of the most rewarding views of the entire journey.
Day 3: Acclimatization Day
On Day 3 of the Damavand tour, participants will have a rest day dedicated to acclimatization. This day will allow participants to adjust to the high altitude and prevent mountain altitude sickness. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the surrounding areas and take short hikes to higher altitudes to help their bodies adjust.
During this day, participants will receive useful tips from their Damavand guide on acclimatization and altitude sickness prevention. These tips may include staying hydrated, eating high-energy foods, and taking things slowly to avoid overexertion.
It is important to note that acclimatization is a crucial part of the trekking process and should not be overlooked. Spending an extra day at Camp 3 Bargah will help participants better prepare for the more challenging parts of the trek ahead, and increase their chances of successfully reaching the summit.
Overall, Day 3 of the itinerary offers participants the opportunity to take a break from the physical demands of the trek, while also ensuring that they are better equipped to handle the altitude changes that come with the higher altitudes of the trek.
Day 4: Ascent to Damavand Summit
On Day 4 of the Mount Damavand climbing program, participants will embark on the most challenging part of the trek: the ascent to the summit of Mount Damavand, the highest peak in Iran. Participants will begin their trek early in the morning, around 4-5 am, to ensure they have enough time to reach the summit and descend before nightfall. The trek to the summit will take approximately 6-7 hours and is considered challenging due to the steep slopes and high altitude.
As participants make their way to the Damavand summit, they will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. Once they reach the summit, they will have a chance to take in the views and celebrate their achievement before beginning the descent back to Camp 3 Bargah. It’s important to note that the descent can be just as challenging as the ascent, so participants should take care and proceed cautiously.
Participants will spend the night at Camp 3 Bargah, which offers a more comfortable and safer option than attempting to descend all the way to Camp 2 Base in one day. Spending the night at Camp 3 Bargah will allow participants to rest and recover before continuing the descent the following day.
Day 4 of the itinerary is the most challenging but also the most rewarding part of the trek. Participants will have the opportunity to summit the highest peak in Iran and take in breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. The trek requires a significant amount of physical endurance and stamina, but with proper preparation and guidance from your Damavand-qualified guide, participants can successfully reach the summit and safely return to Camp 3 Bargah.
Day 5: Descent to Camp 2 Base and Drive to Tehran
On Day 5, you will wake up at Camp 3 Bargah and have breakfast. Then, you will start your descent from Camp 3 to Damavand Camp 2 Base. This will take around 3 hours, depending on your pace. During this time, you will continue to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the mountain and surrounding areas.
Once you arrive at Camp 2 Base, you will be picked up by 4WD off-road cars that will take you back to Polour camp. The journey takes around one hour.
When you arrive at Polour camp, you will have a traditional Iranian lunch and switch to another car for the drive back to Tehran. The drive back takes around 2-3 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. You will arrive at your hotel in Tehran in the afternoon, and your Damavand tour officially comes to an end.
