Damavand Acclimatization
To acclimatize and adapt to climbing Damavand mountain, you may follow these tips:

Prepare and pre-acclimatize before your trip by doing regular aerobic exercises, staying hydrated and avoiding alcohol and smoking. You can also trek to some lower peaks (about 4,000 m) in Iran such as Mount Tochal, Iran or elsewhere to get used to the altitude. Tochal Mountain is a good place for Damavand acclimatization and adaptation.
Choose a gradual and flexible Damavand trekking tour itinerary that allows you to ascend slowly and have enough rest days between different altitudes. A common rule is to not increase your sleeping altitude by more than 1000 meters per day.
Spend at least one night at each Damavand camp (Polour Camp, Gosfandsara Shelter and Bargah Sevom Hut) before attempting the Damavand summit. You can also do some acclimatization hikes during the day to higher altitudes (such as 4,800 m) and then descend back to lower altitudes (such as Damavand Bargah Sevom Hut 4,250 m) to sleep.
Listen to your experienced Damavand mountain trekking guide and your body and monitor your symptoms. If you feel unwell or have signs of AMS, do not ascend further and seek medical help if needed. You can also take some medications such as acetazolamide (Diamox) or dexamethasone (Decadron) to prevent or treat AMS under a doctor’s prescription.
